Crawl Spaces

Crawl spaces are typically pretty yucky places. The exterior perimeter walls should be foamed to provide a great thermal boundary. Most of the time these spaces have dirt floors. The earth should be covered with a vapor barrier to prevent the moisture from entering the space. That can be done several ways depending on use of the space and budget. 6 MIL poly can be used and is fairly inexpensive. A barrier such as Griffolyn® TX-1600 is a 3 ply laminate combining 2 layers of U.V. stabilized coextruded polyethylene and a high strength cord grid. It is specifically engineered to provide high strength and durability in a lightweight material. EPDM roofing material can also be used in high traffic areas.
